Jamboree Park, previously referred to as Jamboree field because it has been used for giant Scouts gatherings called Jamboree, was inaugurated on Saturday in Chittagong city.

Over the years, some local influential people had grabbed parts of the general public Works Department land for growing vegetables while others constructed makeshift shops on another part. it had been also a mosquito breeding spot.

But everything changed within a couple of years. at the present from nearby high rise buildings the park seems like a person dancing raising two hands. The attractive design and illumination of the newly built park catch city dwellers’ eyes.

The park authorities opened it for all last week before the inauguration programme. many people throng the gorgeous park a day after 4:00pm.

On Saturday afternoon, housing and structure minister Mosharraf Hossain formally inaugurated the park.

At a time 5,000 people can use the park without felling being during a crowd. The entry is free.

PWD implemented the park project at a price of Tk 18 crore when the estimated cost was Tk 20 crore.

The park is on 8.55 acres of land. In February, 2016, PWD took up the project to free the land and build a park. the development work started in May of the year.

There are four beautiful structures at four corners of the park — two toilet blocks, one PWD office and one power substation.

There are 50,000 square feet water-body, 8,000 feet walkway and compound road, internal master drain. there's walkway also beside the two .5 feet long boundary wall.

It also features three galleries at the corner of the water-body, two beautiful fountains and 500 lights within the park area. The park has six entrances.

The authorities have raised the peak of the park by three feet to save lots of it from water stagnation from rain and tidal water. There are two pump houses and loop television cameras to make sure security of the park.

Nearly 10,000 saplings of 65 species like Sonalu, Nagesshor, Chapa, Bokul, Shiuli, Togor, Jarul have planted within the field of the park. Several bins have also been placed across the park to stay it clean.

People from not only the nearby areas like Agrabad, Bank Colony, CGS Colony, CDA residential district , TNT Colony, Bohutola Colony but also from Bohoddarhat, Chawkbazar, Nasirabad are coming to go to this park. On Friday the gang grows bigger.

Senior citizens Shafiq Chowdhury and his wife Mita Chowdhury were seen sitting at one corner of the park area.

Talking to New Age, they appreciated the initiative and said the grimy place had really became a tremendous park.

Rahmat Muslamin, a banker, came together with his family from the city’s Love Lane area. They were taking selfies ahead of the park fountains.

He said, ‘At weekends we would like to travel to somewhere but in Chittagong the amount of park is extremely few. We attend restaurant but we would like to inhale fresh air. Now we’ve got an area to breathe.’

The most challenging a part of a development work was to take care of it for long, he added.

PWD executive engineer Ahmed Abdullah Noor said that the aim of the project was fixing long and wide jogging track for workout , open space for public, fixing water body for fresh air.

The park will remain open for all from 5:00am to 9:00pm a day .
